CORMS represented at the 34th Annual Meeting of Airport Cooperation Group

On 19-20 June, the Pompidou group held the 34th Airport Cooperation Group held at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. 29 countries were represented. Representatives donor funded projects in the field of airport cooperation were represented, including the Cocaine Route Programme through CORMS and AIRCOP, but also UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme initiative.

For two days, the participants shared updates on seizures and trends from key European international airports, feedback on the use of PNR and API data in profiling passengers and case studies on successful seizures to share experience and promote best practices. Some countries reported an increase in heroin seizure and the illegal trafficking of Khat and Methamphetamine. Experts highlighted officer safety issues when dealing with Fentanyl.

The Pompidou Group is the Council of Europe’s drug policy cooperation platform. It is an inter-governmental body established in 1971 which promotes a balanced approach in the response to drug use and illicit trafficking in drugs, supporting both demand and supply reduction. The Pompidou Group’s core mission is to contribute to the development of multidisciplinary, innovative, effective and evidence-based drug policies in its Member States.
