International Anti-Corruption Day – 9 December

On 9 December 2015, the United Nations celebrates the International Anti-Corruption Day. UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-Moon called for united efforts to deliver a clear message around the world that firmly rejects corruption and  embraces the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance.

The 2015 joint international campaign “Break the Corruption Chain” focuses on how corruption cripples democracy, the rule of law and human rights, as well as distorts markets, erodes quality of life and allows organized crime, terrorism and other threats to undermine human security. The campaign also stresses how corruption is a cross-cutting crime: acting against corruption is imperative to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to provide a concrete approach to make measurable progress toward balanced sustainable socio-economic growth in tandem with sustainable sourcing of natural resources.
