News briefing – Week of 5 June

  • During a visit to Mexico City, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel offered support to Mexico on the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the United States which should formally start in August. In the same occasion, Merkel expressed its commitment to assist Mexico in its fight against organised crime and violence which have had a deep and negative impact on foreign investment in the country.
  • S. Coast Guard Cutter Valiant crew returned home after a successful 63-day patrol in the Pacific Ocean. The crew seized nearly $150 million of cocaine and $170 million of contraband. Ten individuals were arrested on drug charges.
